Our Story
About
Gift of Life
Founded in 2023 in South Los Angeles, we are a nonprofit organization built on the belief that every person deserves a second chance \u2014 and the right community to make it last.
Who We Are
More Than a
Sober Living Home
Gift of Life Recovery & Sober Living Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safe, structured, and supportive environments for individuals recovering from substance use disorders in Los Angeles.
We believe that lasting recovery requires more than just abstinence it requires community, accountability, purpose, and a stable place to call home. Our homes are designed to provide all of that and more.
From peer support and life skills workshops to recreational activities and community events, we wrap our residents in a network of care that gives them the best possible chance at a new life.
What Drives Us
Our Core Values
Compassion
We meet every person where they are — without judgment, without conditions. Recovery is a human journey and we walk it alongside our residents.
Accountability
Structure and responsibility are the foundation of lasting sobriety. We hold our residents to high standards because we believe in their potential.
Community
No one recovers alone. Our homes are built on brotherhood and sisterhood — a network of people who understand the struggle and celebrate every victory.
Safe Housing
A stable, sober environment is the first step. We provide clean, comfortable homes where residents can focus entirely on their recovery.
Empowerment
We equip residents with the life skills, job readiness, and confidence they need to build independent, fulfilling lives beyond our walls.
Hope
We believe recovery is possible for everyone. Every resident who walks through our doors carries the potential for a completely transformed life.
Where We Serve
Our Sober
Living Homes

A MISSION of Impact
Our Journey
Founded in South LA
Gift of Life opened its first sober living home at 819 E 82nd Street with a mission to serve men in recovery from substance use disorders in Los Angeles.
Expanded to Women’s Housing
Recognizing the unique needs of women in recovery, we opened a dedicated women’s sober living home, providing gender-specific support and programming.
Life Skills Program Launched
We introduced structured life skills workshops covering financial literacy, job readiness, and independent living — helping residents build futures, not just sobriety.
500+ Lives Transformed
A milestone moment: over 500 individuals had passed through our homes and programs, with the majority maintaining long-term sobriety and stable housing.
Community Events Program
We launched our ongoing fundraising events — T-shirt sales, bake sales, and community dinners — deepening our roots in the South LA community.
Growing Strong
Today we operate three sober living homes, serve dozens of residents at any given time, and continue to expand our programs and community partnerships.
